Organization History
Lewis D Brown was born and raised in Ickesburg, PA where his dad, Edward M Brown, owned and operated the E.M. Brown Insurance Agency. After graduating from Penn State University in 1962 with a degree in insurance and finance, Lew moved to Orbisonia after purchasing the Newt Gutshall Insurance Agency on April 1, 1963 thus changing the name of the agency to Brown Insurance Agency.
Rodney Walters joined the agency as a full-time insurance producer in 1978, and five years later, Rodney’s wife Kim joined the agency as the office manager. The agency was incorporated in 1984 and the name of the agency was then changed to Brown & Walters Insurance Agency Inc. Lew retired January 1, 2000 and sold the agency to Rodney & Kim.
On January 1, 2001, the agency joined the Keystone Insurers Group in Northumberland, PA. Keystone Insurers Group is the 5th largest privately owned insurance agency in the United States.
After 22 years with the agency, Clay McMath purchased the agency from Rodney & Kim on July 1, 2017.
Brown & Walters Insurance Agency continues to operate from the same location since its original purchase in 1963.
